The head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad al-Sayeh, said it is still possible to hold elections on time, provided having no more delays in handing over the amendments to the electoral laws, which are still on debate at Parliament.

In an interview with the Libya Al-Ahrar channel, al-Sayeh said that he was expecting to receive the voting laws amendments from the House of Representatives (HoR) on Tuesday, but the Parliament postponed its extraordinary session on the issue.

The HNEC head said that what was published on the commission's website regarding the eligibility to the Presidency was inadvertently dropped. He confirmed that they are waiting for the MPs to respond to the proposed amendments.

"The situation in terms of security and support is very suitable for holding the elections...and those who question the performance and integrity of the commission, well, we tell them that December 24 will be the judge," Al-Sayeh said.
