The Libyan High National Elections Commission (HNEC) said Saturday it would take legal and judicial measures before announcing the final list of presidential candidates ahead of the December 24 vote.

The HNEC added that it would take some legal and judicial measures after communicating with the Supreme Judicial Council and committee formed by the House of Representatives (HoR) before announcing the final list of presidential candidates, saying media campaigns for candidates will happen also before announcing the list.

"The measures will be taken to ensure legality of the decisions of the HNEC and their compatibility with the court rulings to abide by transparency of the electoral process and the law." The HNEC added.

The HNEC was supposed to announce the list of final presidential candidates on last Monday but it had delayed it amid expectations of possible postponement of the vote, especially after some House of Representatives' members warned of election delay due to "violations in accepting presidential candidates".

Observers believe that the candidates threatened to lose their spot on the final list could be the first and second competitors of Haftar, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi for judicial issues and Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah for legal ones.
