Khalid Al-Mishri has been elected for a third term in a row as Head of the Libyan High Council of State (HCS) overcoming the odds of four other members by getting 73 votes out of 132 in total.

His opponents for the chair were Mohammed Abu Sanina (36 votes) Naji Mukhtar (14 votes) Naima Al-Hami (2 votes) and Sulaiman Zubi (1 vote).

Al-Mishri was first elected Head of the HCS in April 2018 and then in April 2019 before being elected for a third run on Sunday, three months after the due dates for elections because of Coronavirus measures.

HCS member Mohammed Baqi was elected Sunday as first deputy and Safwan Al-Maisouri as second deputy.

Speaking after elections, Al-Mishri told reporters that the HCS rejects Haftar's proposed conditions for reopening oil production and ending exports blockade, including depositing revenues in a foreign bank.
