Member of the High Council of State (HCS) Abdulrahman Sewehli has renewed his refusal to involve Khalifa Haftar in any further political process through what he described an "attempt to recycle previous agreements -Paris-Abu Dhabi meeting- to share power", after it proved its failure and contributed to the complexity of the crisis rather than resolving it.

This came during a telephone conversation with the US Deputy Ambassador and Chargé d'Affaires to Libya, Joshua Harris, to discuss the developing situation on the Libyan arena.

Sewehli commended the US position with respect to calling on Haftar to stop his attack on Tripoli and for its support for Libya's sovereignty against Russian negative intervention attempts.

He also stressed that the Berlin meeting on Libya represents an opportunity to stop the interventions of all countries supporting Haftar and would herald a definitive global consensus aimed at ending the crisis in Libya and restoring the destiny of Libya in the hands of the people via the ballot boxes.

He called on the United States to cooperate with Britain, Italy and Germany to exert strong pressure on countries supporting the " war criminal" Haftar and stop their blatant interference in Libyan affairs, which fueled chaos and instability.

Sewehli further emphasized the importance for the US to develop its position against Russian intervention in support of Haftar.

"This has exacerbated the crisis and increased the humanitarian cost, as a result of indiscriminate artillery shelling supervised by Russian mercenaries," he said.

For his part, the US Deputy Ambassador reiterated his country's commitment to its position towards ending the aggression on the Libyan capital stressing support for the sovereignty of Libya in the face of Russia's attempts to exploit the crisis against the will of Libyans.

The Deputy Ambassador praised the close cooperation between the United States of America and the forces affiliated with the Government of National Accord (GNA) - Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous- in the 2016 military operations against ISIS in the city of Sirte, which defeated the largest ISIS stronghold outside Syria and Iraq.
