High Council of State (HCS) members condemned in the strongest terms the statement of the House of Representatives' Speaker Aqilah Saleh and the so-called Benghazi general command about enlisting Egypt's help in a military operation in Derna.

In a meeting on Tuesday, the HCS members said this serious development needs the intervention of the government and the United Nations in order to deter the flagrant violation of Libya's sovereignty and the UN Security Council resolutions.

The members also said that they will take the needed legal measures to foil some of the HoR's decisions that have been recently made in violation of the Libyan Political Agreement.

The Speaker of the Torbruk-based House of Representatives Aqilah Saleh told Cairo-based Youm7 newspaper that Khalifa Haftar-led self-styled army is going to launch an attack on Derna - to "liberate it" - in coordination with Egyptian military forces, saying this operation is to Egypt's benefit.

Haftar and his mouthpiece Ahmed Al-Mismari - spokesman for Dignity Operation - both said more than once that Egyptian airstrikes on Derna and elsewhere are welcome, enlisting Egypt's help in attacking Derna, which is the last eastern city outside Haftar's grip.
