The German ambassador to Libya, Oliver Owcza, said he met Khalifa Haftar Wednesday in Al-Rajma in eastern Libya and expressed concern over the continuing military confrontations in the country and their impact on Libyan people.
Owcza said on Twitter that he had encouraged Haftar to resume 5+5 military commission talks to reach a ceasefire and then tackle urgent security issues.
Haftar's media office said the meeting saw discussions about the Cairo Declaration that "aims to bring back conflict parties to negotiations and the political process".
Haftar hailed the German efforts to bring peace to Libya, saying his forces will continue to make efforts to preserve Libyan sovereignty and unity.
Haftat agreed to Cairo Declaration, also named "Intra-Libyan Initiative" to reach a ceasefire, supposedly on last Monday, but later his spokesman Ahmed Al-Mismari said they would continue military operations until the other party (GNA) agreed on the initiative.
