The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, has called on all regional and international stakeholders of the Libyan situation to commit to the ceasefire agreement, which was signed last October, and to ensure the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya.

In a letter to the Security Council, Guterres urged all Libyan parties to reach a permanent political solution and to alleviate the humanitarian situation in the country.

He also called for releasing all arbitrarily-held people in Libya and transferring the legally-held ones to state detentions, urging for dealing with the detainees as per intentional laws and conventions.

Meanwhile, the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) called in a statement Saturday on the countries that took part in Berlin Conference to implement their promises on the ground, especially as regards to withdrawing foreign elements and mercenaries from Libya and abiding by the Security Council's arms embargo in the country.

The 5+5 JMC reiterated that it would continue to honor the ceasefire agreement with all of its points as signed in last October in Geneva, urging all stakeholders to implement their promises and commitments as agreed on in the ceasefire agreement from both sides of the conflict.

The ceasefire's three month deadline for the withdrawal of foreign mercenaries from Libya ended last Saturday amid news, reported by many media outlets, including CNN, that Russian Wagner Group had been extending their foothold in Libya, building trenches in and around Sirte in central Libya.
