Gunmen from Bab Tajoura Brigade in Tripoli stormed Saturday the Bank of Commerce and Development and arrested the director and two other officials.

The gunmen ordered the bank to close its doors indefinitely and threatened to arrest all bank tellers in case they resumed work.

Bab Tajoura Brigade, which operates under the Presidential Council, accused the bank of being the reason of the hike in US dollar price in the black market.

There are unconfirmed reports that some officials of the bank are buying the dollar from the black market by check at a high price of around LYD 14 dinars for one dollar, which causes the price to skyrocket.

The three bank officials were released after 6 hours of detention.

The US dollar price has surged in the black market and closed at LYD 9:08 dinars on Saturday.
