The Libyan Mufti, Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani, has called for lodging a lawsuit against the allegations of the hacking of the Libyan National ID System.

In his weekly TV program on Tanasuh Channel on Wednesday, the Mufti said a serious investigation into the issue is needed as it constitutes a treason of all Libyans.

“Some news said there are a million “fake people” registered in the Libyan Civil Registry, which is a huge “violation.” He remarked.

In the meantime, the former Social Affairs Minister of the Salvation Government, Samira Al-Furjani, revealed reports about “fake national IDs” describing it as a catastrophe.

“Serious violations in the Civil Registry are being committed and about a million national ID numbers were forged.” Al-Furjani said.

Likewise, the member of the High Council of State (HCS) Amna Emtair said that the counterfeit national IDs are real, adding that the separation of the eastern system from the western one had added to the tragedy and opened the door for forgery.

Emtir added that the issue casts doubt on the transparency of the elections, whether parliamentary, municipal or presidential in Libya, saying the Intelligence Agency must probe the forgery as it is a violation of the national security.
