Libya's Grand Mufti Sheikh Al-Sadiq Al-Gharyani has highly appreciated the Shura Council of Derna for their role in defeating and liberating their city from Daesh groups.
Speaking to Tanasuh TV, he said the fighters of Shura Council of Derna have done a great work on behalf of all Libyans by defeating Daesh, urging all tribes in Derna and around it to support the council for bringing peace and security back to Derna.
"Derna was an occupied city; the entire world was considering Derna as a hub for terrorism, bloodshed, killing and kidnapping, but now it has been liberated in just few days." He said.
In Sirte, He indicated that there is a link between supporters of the ex-Gaddafi regime and Daesh militants there, urging local residents to turn against them.
The Mufti also lashed out at Khalifa Haftar, saying his military operation in Benghazi has achieved nothing but destroyed the city on the pretext of fighting terrorism.
He criticized the stances of the international community and the UN for supporting Haftar and his forces who are now fighting Derna Shura Council while the latter is engaged in a war with Daesh militants on the outskirts of Derna.
"I tell the international community and the UN: you are not fighting terrorism but supporting it. When you recognize Haftar and his government, while at the same time you see him destroy Benghazi and fight those who kicked terrorism out of Derna...what does that mean? It means you are supporting terrorism." He pointed out.
He also clarified that any violations to the laws are unacceptable and that the international laws and conventions are respected.
"I say to the international community, we are totally against lawlessness, we are in favor of the Sharia (Islamic law), we are in favor of the peaceful transfer of power, and we are in favor of all international laws and conventions which do not violate the Sharia." He concluded.
