GNC Speaker Nuri Abu Sahmain has deplored Monday's visit of the head of UNSMIL Bernardino Leon to Misrata saying such a visit might complicate the negotiation process, undermine the dialogue efforts and lose trust in the UNSMIL as a neutral party.

Abu Sahmain, in a message to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, indicated that Leon's visit took place without taking the necessary approvals from the General Staff or the GNC dialogue team.

"Leon held security meetings with a number of military officers from the General Staff and some revolutionary fighters, all of whom are operating under the legitimacy of GNC, without taking the necessary approvals." He said.

"The meeting took place despite my previous telephone contacts with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken in which I reassured them that I am ready to nominate some army officers to discuss the security arrangements." He said in his message.

Abu Sahmain held the UNSMIL responsible for any consequences might occur as a result of this act, calling Ban Ki-Moon to address this wrong behavior of his mission, according to the message.

On Monday, Bernardino Leon paid a visit to Misrata where he met with the city's council and military officials, in addition to some revolutionary chiefs in western Libya to discuss the security arrangements, one of the political dialogue tracks.
