Fighters of Derna Shura Council continue their crackdown on IS hideouts in the city, while GNC vows support for the fighters

GNC head Abu Sahmain vows support for anti-IS Derna locals

The Head of the General National Congress, Nuri Abu Sahmain, has expressed honor and appreciation for Derna revolutionaries and other fighters from the city who were attacked by the terrorist and extremist militias of the so-called IS.

“Derna citizens have always shown commitment to the Islamic teachings and the 17 February principles in the face of the ex-regime followers, and here they are defending their city and all of Libya as they wage a righteous war in an attempt to uproot the terrorist IS group from their city.” He indicated in a statement late on Saturday. Abu Sahmain added that Derna is a priority for the GNC, and promised all Libyans to never let its citizens by themselves in this fight.

"The GNC will provide Derna citizens with the needed equipment to help them terminate those militants," he said, pointing out that Derna would be the first step on the way of freeing Benghazi and Sirte from terrorism and extremism represented by IS and ex-regime followers. Concluding his statement, Abu Sahmain said that orders were given to the Salvation Government to finance the ongoing operations in Derna against IS, which will hopefully lead to freeing the city from terrorism once and forever.
