The German Chancellor Angela Merkel has denounced the attack on Tripoli by Khalifa Haftar's forces and called for ending the offensive and for Haftar's forces withdrawal to its previous positions.

This came in a phone call with the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj on Thursday, when Merkel said there is no military solution in Libya but only a political one.

Merkel also said that this attack has caused a lot of damage to the UN-led political process, while Al-Sarraj hailed Germany's stance and called on the international community to have a firmer position in condemning and stopping the attack on Tripoli, reaffirming that their forces will fight off the offensive till it's defeated.

On another phone call, Al-Sarraj talked with the International Criminal Court (ICC) Fatou Bensouda who expressed her sadness about the unjustified attack on Tripoli, condemning the targeting of civilian institutions and endangerment of civilian lives.

Bensouda said the ICC won't hesitate in issuing arrest warrants of war criminals and those who commit crimes against humanity in Tripoli and elsewhere in Libya.
