Germany has signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Libya to provide about two million euros to support the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), currently being held in Tunis, under the auspices of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
The agreement was signed in Tunisia on Thursday between the German Ambassador to Libya, Oliver Owcza, and UNDP Resident Representative, Gerardo Noto, in the presence of the Acting Head of the UNSMIL, Stephani Williams.
"Germany committed Euro 2,020,000 to support the Political Dialogue Programme, which has organized the LPDF," a statement by the UNDP said on Friday.
The German ambassador said that his country is committed in its support to the Libyan Political and Peace Process, as a core follow-up of the Berlin Conference, calling on all Libyan stakeholders to support the upcoming transitional phase to the benefit of all Libyans, according to his statement.
The UNDP confirmed that Germany is the main contributor to the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL) with more than 32 million dollars of funds.
On his part, UNDP Resident Representative Noto praised Germany's support saying its strong partnership with the UNDP in Libya has been very effective in providing support to people in Libya for stability and peace.
"This strong support to political dialogue made possible the organization of this critical meeting of the LPDF, led by Acting SRSG Stephanie Williams and UNSMIL with UNDP support," the UNDP Resident Representative said.
He also expressed readiness to continue work towards achieving development and peace in Libya.
