The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has signed a contract with the Greek firm, METKA to implement the project of Tobruk gas power plant.
The Wednesday signing was attended by the Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala and the Greek economy official George Sprass, in addition to Tobruk mayor and a representative of the US firm General Electric.
The GECOL CEO Abdulmajid Hamza said after signing the contract with the Greek firm's specializing representative that the plant will cost 500.000.000 Libyan dinars and will take 15 months to end, adding that it will produce 740 megawatts.
"This project will help reduce the power outages in the country. The first unit will operate after 9 months, the second after 10 months, the third after 11 and the fourth after 15 months. " Hamza indicated.
He added that General Electric will provide the equipment for getting the project done.
Hamza also said that METKA delegation and he will visit Tobruk to make sure of the commencement of the project, which will help solve power crisis to some extent.
