Le Figaro reported the French Presidency as saying that Libyan elections are approaching with a strong movement at work in Libya to hold them on time, but warned that stability of the country is at stake.

The Élysée Palace reported on Tuesday that those who want to spoil the current dynamic are trying to derail the electoral process, saying it is therefore necessary "to make the electoral process incontestable and irreversible" and to ensure that the result of the elections is then "respected".

"These elections, the culmination of a laborious political process sponsored by the UN, are supposed to turn the page on a decade of chaos since the fall of Muammar Gadhafi's regime in 2011 and put an end to the divisions and conflicts between two rival camps, one in the west of the country and the other in the east." The French newspaper reported the Presidency as saying.

It added that the French Presidency indicated that political tensions have picked up again with the approach of the poll, each camp suspecting the other of wanting to pull the cover on itself, which makes the holding of elections uncertain, in a still fragile security context.

“The conference will be co-chaired by France, Germany, Italy - three countries on the front line in the search for a solution to the crisis - the United Nations and Libya," underlined the Elysee, saying officials from most of the countries involved in the Libyan crisis or its resolution, including US Vice President Kamala Harris and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, will be present, according to the Libyan government.

Le Figaro said Russia will be represented by its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, while the level of representation of Turkey, was not specified. Libya's was not known either, and Libya will be represented by the Head of Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi. Prime Minister's arrival has not been confirmed yet, the newspaper said.

It added that Tunisia, Niger and Chad will also be present. Algeria, in the midst of a diplomatic crisis with Paris over the memory of colonization, has however not confirmed its participation.
