The foundation stone was laid Thursday to rebuild Tripoli International Airport, which will be implemented by the Turkish DORCE Prefabricated Building & Construction Industry Trade INC in cooperation with Libya’s Internal Investment Fund.

The event was attended by the Prime Minister of the Salvation Government and a delegation from the Turkish company as well as a delegation from the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority and Tripoli International Airport administration.

The Director of Tripoli International Airport, Ibrahim Salim, said that the building will be finished in 15 months starting from the day of signing the contract according to the plan given by the Turkish firm.

“The rebuilding of the airport will include the passengers lounge, airplanes runway, control tower, and the parking, which according to the Turkish company’s plan will consist of three floors, and the passengers lounge will have a capacity of 5 million passengers per year, while the runway will take 12 planes instead of the 6 ones it used to take in the past.” A member of the Turkish company explained.

Last July, the General Services Company appointed by the Development of Administrative Centers Authority started with removing the damaged and burned parts as well as the debris from the passengers lounge.
