Warlord Khalifa Haftar released on Tuesday former Benghazi mayor and deputy spy chief of the east-based Interim Government Ahmed Araibi after five months of detention.

Araibi was snatched last October along with his son from their house in Arid Lamloum, Benghazi, by Salafist brigade Tariq Bin Ziyad, a notorious armed group linked to Haftar’s son.

His son was freed after a month of detention.

No charges were directed to Araibi, and the reason behind his arrest remained unknown.

But military sources from the city said he was arrested over accusations that he provided UN panel of experts with information regarding the financial corruption in Benghazi, including documents proving Saddam Haftar guilty of a money heist at the Central Bank of the city.
