Chairman of the permanent committee to follow up on the Libyan prisoners abroad at the Foreign Ministry, Muhammad Zaidan, held a meeting Saturday in Rome with Libya's Ambassador to Italy Omar Al-Tarhouni to discuss the conditions of Libyan inmates in Italian prisons.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the meeting touched upon issues related to Libyan prisoners in Italy and the need to follow up on their cases and provide the necessary assistance, including financial support.

The two sides exchanged views on practical mechanisms to mitigate the sentences issued against Libyan prisoners or bring them back home to serve their sentences in Libyan reform and rehabilitation institutions.

They also discussed the possibility of coordinating with the competent authorities in Italy to set dates for visits to some prisoners.
