The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is calling on diplomatic missions to return and exercise their duties from inside Libya, as the security situation on the ground is improving.

Addressing the diplomatic missions and regional organizations, the head office of the Undersecretary for Consular Affairs, Murad Hamima, informed diplomatic missions accredited to Libya to return to function from the capital, Tripoli, and their consulates in other Libyan cities.

“In the light of the consensus achieved between Libyan parties that culminated in the formation of a unified government, which performance reflected positively on the stabilization of the security situation, thus bringing life back to normal in Libya in general, and the capital, Tripoli, in particular, there is no justification for the missions to function from outside Libya."

The statement noted that it is important for embassies to start functioning within the country to facilitate visa procedures and other services provided to citizens and Libyan institutions.

In this regard, it suggested opening an embassy-affiliated office to receive visa applications and other service requirements and for these offices to complete the related procedures and deliver them to those concerned without the need for the residents to travel abroad.

The Ministry underscored that it would deal with the states with the principle of reciprocity with respect to travel applications of the destination country and the time lag in the issuance of visas.
