The brother of the kidnapped MP, Siham Serghiwa, has disclosed that he no longer believes that his sister is still alive.

In an interview with the Middle East Eye, Sergiwa's brother said they had received no information regarding her health condition or whereabouts since her abduction from her home, in Benghazi, last July.

"It’s been months since she disappeared and we are yet to hear anything on her whereabouts,” her brother explained.

"She was likely to have been killed hours after her abduction," he added.

He said that Pro-Haftar elements and TV channels have been saying that they are not responsible for her disappearance, and even that she has been released - but their claims proved groundless.

The family accused Haftar's militias of "playing games" to try and diffuse the situation.

Political activists are constantly going missing only for their bodies to appear in the streets a few days later as a sign to Libyans that they should not question Haftar’s authority, according to Sergiwa's brother.

The words Awliya al-Dam, meaning “avengers of blood”, were found written on the walls of her house, after the raiding of her home, according to relatives and eyewitnesses.

Awliya al-Dam is one of Haftar's militias, whose members are relatives of people killed in the war waged by Haftar in Benghazi.

MP Sergiwa was abducted just hours after giving an interview to pro-Haftar Al Hadath TV, in which she criticised the offensive on Tripoli, and called for the formation of a national unity government.
