The European Commission denied Monday any knowledge of international reports about violations made by the Libyan Coast Guard personnel against immigrants rescued from boats in the Mediterranean.

The spokeswoman of the European Commission, , said they don't mind looking into the reports about the violations' accusations against Libyan coastguards, saying their training of the Libyan coastguards was very strict and effective, Italian news agency Aki said.

The spokeswoman added that the Libyan coastguards were trained to respect human rights of the immigrants, saying their work is coordinated with the International Organization for Migration and UNHCR.

"The training given by Operation Sophia cadres aims for safer waters for all. The trainees were also selected very carefully against certain clear criteria." The spokeswoman added.

Several NGOs accused Libyan coastguards of violating the rights of immigrants in the Mediterranean.
