The European Union has decided to remove the former prime minister of the National Salvation Government, Khalifa al-Ghweil, from its sanctions list.
This came in a statement issued by the European Council on Friday, in which it confirmed that the decision will take effect by April 2.
Sanctions against al-Ghweil, who also served as defense minister in the National Salvation Government, include a travel ban and an asset freeze.
In 2016, the EU imposed sanctions on several Libyan figures - including al-Ghweil - for allegedly "obstructing peace" in Libya.
However, the EU was criticized for turning a blind eye on Khalifa Haftar, who has openly expressed his rejection of the Libyan Political Agreement on several occasions.
