The European Union's High Representative Josep Borrell said the escalation in Tripoli needs to stop as a matter of urgency and all parties need to fully respect the truce they agreed to, refrain from any further military action, and re-engage in a political dialogue for a solution to the crisis in Libya.

“We need to keep the momentum created by the Berlin process and the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 2510 (2020). Talks in Geneva under UN leadership should resume as quickly as possible, so that the parties move towards swift deescalation and commit to a sustainable ceasefire.” Borrell added in a statement by the EU issued on Wednesday.

He said the EU remains strongly committed to support the UN-led peace process in Libya and the efforts by the UN envoy Ghassan Salame to implement the Berlin declaration, as the only way out of the Libyan crisis.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj suspended Wednesday all dialogue talks with Haftar. Later in the day, the Presidential Council issued a statement saying there will be no negotiations in any of the UN tracks with Haftar until the international community takes firm actions against the aggressor, in what seemed to be a response to Haftar's attack on Tripoli port on Tuesday, which killed three people.
