Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on the United Nations to take a firm stand against the violations committed by Haftar and his militias in Libya, which "undermine the Geneva Convention and the international human rights system," as he put it.
"The attacks launched by the coup plotters in Libya last year to overthrow the legitimate Government of National Accord (GNA) have brought nothing but pain and destruction to the country, Erdogan said in his speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
He held the international community responsible for failing to take measures to ensure that the "coup plotters" and their supporters are made accountable for the massacres and human rights violations they committed, especially the mass graves in Tarhuna.
As for the UN Secretary-General's call for a global ceasefire, Erdogan said it had yielded no results.
"We regret that the UN Secretary-General's call for a global humanitarian ceasefire, which we also support, did not yield tangible results," he said, expressing his belief in "a permanent political solution in Libya through an inclusive and comprehensive dialogue led by Libyans.
