Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed his country's continued support for the interim government led by Prime minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, saying that a parallel authority would be an inappropriate approach for Libya.

On Feb. 10, the House of Representatives, based in eastern Libya, named former Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha to form a new government, replacing incumbent Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

"Turkey will continue to provide possible support to Libya to reach the elections," Erdogan said in press statements Wednesday.

He indicated that Ankara enjoys a good relationship with Parliament-designated prime minister Fathi Bashagha and the incumbent PM Abdul Hamid Dbeibah.

Erdogan's statements are the first Turkish reaction to the House of Representatives announcement of a parallel government and the appointment of Bashagha as its head.
