A number of elders and dignitaries of the tribes of Jaghbub region, eastern Libya, denounced what they described as "Egypt’s desperate actions and false claims" of declaring Libya’s Jaghbub region as an Egyptian territory.

The elders confirmed in a statement Thursday that they will not give up an inch of Libyan lands, stressing that no one has the right to claim Jaghbub as an Egyptian territory.

The statement also condemned what it called "the fraudulent campaign and frivolous claims by Egyptian media," which seeks to instigate strife and enrage sensibilities by claiming Jaghbub “a usurped Egyptian territory.”

A number of Egyptian media outlets have recently circulated claims relating to the territorial rights to Egypt of some Libyan cities in the eastern region, since the Italian occupation to Libya, including Jaghbub Oasis.
