The Libyan ambassador to the UN Al-Taher El Sonni said "Khalifa Haftar's militias" are still committing crimes without any deterrence, the last of which the murder of lawyer Hanan Al-Barasi in Benghazi after she has criticized him and his sons.

In his address to the Security Council Tuesday, El Sonni said the murder of the lawyer was an extension to the kidnap of women in Benghazi, just like what happened with Parliament member Siham Sergiwa and Magbola A-Hassi as well as the killing of Salwa Bugaiges before them.

He also said that it has been a year and a half since the war on Tripoli and no one has been brought to justice for the crimes which are proved by evidence, adding that he has asked the International Criminal Court and Human Rights Council to send fact-finding missions to probe crimes of Haftar and his supporting countries in Tarhouna and southern Tripoli.

He urged the Security Council to speed up investigation and announce the results with subsequent arrest warrants to bring the perpetrators and their local and international supporters to justice.

El Sonni reminded the Security Council of crimes done before the war on Tripoli in Murzuq and in eastern Libyan cities like Benghazi and Derna, mentioning the forced displacement of people from eastern Libya by Haftar's forces.
