Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has pledged support for Libya's unity, stability, and national dialogue during a phone call with the Presidential Council Head Mohamed Mennfi.

Sisi "stressed that Egypt will not spare any effort in supporting Libya in national reconciliation and reunification, away from any political disputes," a presidency statement said on Monday.

The call between Sisis and Menfi comes a week after talks between Libyan rivals on constitutional arrangements in Cairo ended with failure.

The Egyptian President vowed to continue support for the PC in its efforts to move the country toward a political settlement and help its troubled neighbour in expelling foreign forces from Libyan territory.

The statement said there was a consensus on the necessity that the solution to the Libyan crisis stems from the Libyans themselves, and both agreed that holding elections is the only way out of the current stalemate.
