The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, said Saturday in a meeting with the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, in Cairo that international efforts should lead to the exit of all foreign forces from Libya without any exception, adding that coordination is needed to take a firm stand against the continued violations of UN arms embargo on the country by some parties.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the meeting was part of Cairo's contact with all parties to the Libyan situation, adding Shoukry reiterated that the presence of foreign forces in Libya poses threats to its sovereignty and impacts neighboring states and regional stability.

Shoukry said elections should be held on time next December as per the roadmap of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and UN Security Council resolutions, reiterating the importance of the constitutional basis for elections, saying any delay could have a negative effect.

The UN envoy briefed Shoukry on the results of his communications with different Libya stakeholders and his vision for stability, hailing the hosting of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission meeting by Cairo, where he hoped it would lead to mutual understanding on mechanisms for the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.
