The Egyptian air force has announced targeting Libya's Derna city in the eastern region with six air raids hitting allegedly locations of "terrorists" whom it said had been a part of the recent attack on Minya Copts.

In a televised speech, the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, said his country's army will never hesitate in targeting terrorists wherever they are inside and outside Egypt.

Derna Shura Council, however, said the airstrikes targeted civilian locations and none of their positions had been affected, unlike what the Egyptian media had reported.

"Many missiles were found unexploded in Jabilah area, in western Derna, yet several others had gone off in Al-Fatayeh in eastern Derna and some other location westward. No fatalities were registered." Derna Shura Council added.

"Our forces reacted to the Egyptian aircraft's shelling by anti-aircraft gunfire, despite the fact that they were not so discernible." Derna Shura Council indicated.

It also remarked that the Egyptian air attack was rather random and the air force pilots were obviously in a hurry as most of their missiles fell on empty land.

Egyptian media said their country's warplanes targeted an operations room location for the Derna Shura Council in eastern Libya, saying it is backed up by IS terrorists, despite the fact that Derna Shura Council is the only entity that fought IS terror groups and eradicated them from Derna last year.

In February 2015, Egyptian warplanes raided civilian residential areas in Derna in the wake of the execution of 21 Egyptian Copts in Sirte by IS diehards.
