The Egyptian President, Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmajid Tebboune, who is in Cairo on a two-day visit, stressed the need to fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for holding presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a meeting in Cairo on Tuesday, the two presidents talked about the developments of the Libyan situation, according to a statement by the spokesman for the Egyptian presidency.

The spokesman added that the two presidents had also agreed to intensify coordination between the two countries regarding the mechanisms for resolving the Libyan crisis, taking into account “the sensitivity of the current period”, and stressing the importance of continuing to support efforts aimed at achieving Libya's stability, unity and territorial integrity, not to mention preserving the unity of Libya’s national institutions.

During the meeting, El-Sisi and Tebboune outlined the need to consolidate the ceasefire in Libya, and to remove all foreign forces, mercenaries and fighters from Libya, given the direct impact that their presence has on Egyptian and Algerian national security.
