Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio has said that the stability of a unified and sovereign Libya remains a priority and a strategic goal for Italy.

Addressing attendants at the Conference of Italian Ambassadors To The World, Di Maio called on Libyan parties to commit constructively to the success of the electoral process.

After the ceasefire, it is time to achieve the complex goal of holding the elections, Di Maio said, though he did confirm that there is uncertainty regarding the UN-set deadline for the elections.

The increasing tension hinders the implementation of the Berlin Conference outcomes on the ground, making the evacuation of the mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya more challenging, he added.

Di Maio renewed his call for domestic players to commit to defining a clear horizon for holding free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections as soon as possible.
