Sources close to Defend Benghazi Brigades said they gripped hold of Sultan district that is located between Benghazi and Ajdabia, adding that they seized control of Al-Jalidiya checkpoint in addition to a number of weapons and ammunition. Sultan district is nearly 40 km to the east of Ajdabia, while Al-Jalidiya checkpoint is almost 60 km east of it.

During the advance by the Defend Benghazi Brigades forces toward Benghazi on Sunday, violent clashes erupted, leading to seizing an ammunition depot in Al-Jalidiya camp, four tanks, military vehicles all related to Khalifa Haftar’s militias, who were in control of the area, the sources explained.

Clashes are still ongoing as the Defend Benghazi Brigades keep on advancing toward Al-Magroon and Sulooq towns near Benghazi, the sources added, indicating that Haftar’s fighter aircraft bombed the forces of the brigades, however; no casualties were reported.

Defend Benghazi Brigades, which is led by Brigadier General Mustafa Al-Sharkasi, are formed of a number of former revolutionaries from the city of Benghazi besides the displaced Benghazi men, who were left the city with the kickoff of the so-called Dignity Operation, led by Kahlifa Haftar.
