Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has praised the "sacrifices" made by the Al-Bunyan al-Marsous force in their war against the extremist ISIS group.

The PM's remarks came in a tweet Thursday to mark the launching of "Operation Al-Bunyan al-Marsous," which defeated and drove out ISIS from Sirte six years ago.

He said what they presented will remain a national epic that embodies courage and love for the homeland.

The force defeated ISIS in their final stronghold in the Algiza district in Sirte on December 6, 2016, following eight months of combat and fierce fighting.

More than 750 martyrs from across Libya have laid down their lives to liberate the city from the extremist group.
