The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, received Monday the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi di Maio, in Tripoli, in his fifth visit to Libya since the beginning of 2021.

The two officials discussed issues of joint interest in the presence of Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush, and the State Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Adel Jumua.

Di Maio also met with the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, and the Head of the High Council of State, Khalid Al-Mishri, before going to Benghazi to meet with Khalifa Haftar ahead of attending the reopening of the Italian consulate in there.

The Italian Foreign Ministry said Di Maio's visit was to continue dialogue with all Libyan parties about stability and unity of institutions under the auspices of the UN, which Rome supports, along with the approval of the budget, implementation of the ceasefire agreement and eventually holding elections on December 24, saying the visit to eastern Libya was to reactivate the consulate in Benghazi.

It also said that the meetings Di Maio held discussed cooperation in economy as per the positive results of the business forum held May 31 in the presence of Prime Minister Dbeibah.
