As world leaders gathered Friday in Paris to push for Libya's forthcoming elections, Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah reiterated the need for a consensus-based voting law to achieve justice and equal opportunities in the upcoming elections.

In his speech, PM Dbeibah urged all countries to make a positive contribution to ensuring fair and transparent elections through political and logistical support.

He said it is important for the presidential and parliamentary elections to happen simultaneously and to set strict time frames in this regard. He further called for guarantees to ensure that the outcomes of the elections are respected by all Libyan and international parties.

Dbeibah also stressed the need to set clear criteria for imposing sanctions on those who obstruct or reject the results of the elections without exception, calling on the participating countries to support the Libyan authorities in implementing their political, security, and economic plans in the short and long term.

The PM said it is necessary to respond to the sovereign demands of the Libyan people regarding the complete and simultaneous exit of all foreign forces under the direct supervision of the Libyan state and that the Libyan government should be present at all negotiation tables discussing this issue.

He reaffirmed support for the Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) (JMC) and its logistical and financial requirements to remove mercenaries and foreign fighters from the country.
