The Council of Wisemen and Elders of Misrata has condemned the aerial bombing of the city of Tarhuna, which caused damage to public and private property.

The Council demanded the State security and judicial institutions to conduct a prompt investigation into the attack and prosecute anyone who contributed to this "heinous" act, according to a statement released on Thursday.

It also held the governing authority in Tripoli the responsibility for the safety of civilians, and the cessation of hostilities against them and their property.

"All of those who caused the impoverishment of the Libyan people and practiced injustice and looting, in addition to the politicians pulling strings behind the scenes and got involved in the embezzlement of state funds must be brought to justice," the statement read.

People in Tarhuna took to the streets to protest the aerial bombing of some sites in the city last Tuesday.

The Presidential Council denied responsibility for the bombing of the city, insisting that its air force had only targeted the "aggressor" on Tripoli in the area of Salahaldin, in reference to the forces of the Seventh Brigade.
