The Head of the Presidential Council (PC) Fayez Al-Sirraj said the solution for the Libyan crisis is holding elections based on constitution, thus ending the conflict among parties and giving Libyans the choice of voting.

The remarks came in Al-Sirraj's speech at the EU-League of Arab States summit in Sharm El Sheikh on Monday.

"Elections should be preceded by the National Conference in which all parties should find solutions to end the deadlock in the country as per the action plan of UNSMIL's Head Ghassan Salame." Al-Sirraj explained.

He also indicated that a radical solution should be the end of the current conflict, political maneuvers and negative foreign interventions, which encourage some parties to go on with their strategies that hinder the democratic track that leads to a Libyan state.

"I hope that the summit will take a stand in support for political solutions in Libya. We in Libya find it pivotal that the sovereign institutions are united, including the military institution." Al-Sirraj added.

He reiterated the need for uniting efforts among all regional and international countries to fight terrorism and illegal immigration.

"Despite the drop in migrants' numbers on the Mediterranean Sea route and the rescue of hundreds from the sea, numbers are still rising inside Libya as about 800.000 illegal migrants are in the country, knowing that those who live in detention camps are only 20.000 of them." Al-Sirraj remarked.

He also called on the EU, African Union, and the United Nations to fight the human traffickers not only in Libya but also the networks in source, crossing countries and in Europe, thus helping immigrants to voluntarily return to their countries of origin, adding that Europe should host some of those numbers.
