The commander of the self-styled army in eastern Libya, Khalifa Haftar, arrived Sunday in Rome and met with the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, ahead of next month's Palermo Conference on Libya, the Italian News Agency, ANSA, has reported.

ANSA also reported that Haftar was scheduled to meet with the Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi to go over the agenda of the Palermo conference, which is scheduled for November 12-13.

This is not the first time Haftar and Milanesi meet this year as the latter visited Haftar in Al-Rajma and discussed with him the preparations for the conference, which is supposed to come up with solutions to the political stalemate in Libya.

Haftar has also been before to Rome on an official visit and met with the Prime Minister Conte this year.

The Italian Prime Minister had also held a meeting last Friday with the Head of Libya's Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sirraj in Rome.

Many international and Libyan parties have been invited by Rome to attend the conference with many replying positively such as the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, according to Italy’s Foreign Minister.
