Security and media sources confirmed that the coastal road that links Tripoli with Wirshiffana and Al-Zawiya has been reopened, pointing out that all the sand barricades in Sayad and Maya districts on the coastal road were removed.

The sources indicated that the coastal road is open from Wirshiffana but not from Janzour – a suburban district to the west of Tripoli.

In the meantime, the chief of patrols in Fursan Janzour Brigade, Jalal Basheer, said the road between Tripoli and Al-Zawiya is still closed, saying it will only be reopened when a comprehensive agreement is struck by all parties.

“We have not been informed about the reopening of the road from Wirshiffana’s side and we have not been contacted for coordination.” Basheer added, stressing that they do not oppose the reopening once the guarantees for the safety of the passersby are agreed on.

Over the last days, intensive discussions took place between Wirshiffana and Al-Zawiya notables leading to Thursday’s reopening of the coastal road. The security department of Al-Zawiya and Sahil Jafara will secure the road that links Tripoli to the districts lying westward.
