The events that took place in Tripoli on Friday are unacceptable, and those who contributed to the commission of the act in any way must be punished, said Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Abdul Hamid Dbeibah on Saturday.

The PM made his remarks during an accountability session, attended by commanders of the military districts and the military prosecutor, in addition to the Minister of Interior.

During the meeting, the Chief of Staff was assigned to form a fact-finding committee to present its results within a week.

Dbeibah also gave his orders to accord priority to completing the administrative and technical structure of the Chief of Staff and its affiliated entities in order to keep the chain of command.

At the opening of the session, the Director of the Military Intelligence Department and the designated Chief of General Staff presented a detailed report on the incident.

The Prime Minister underscored the need to expedite the investigation and take legal action regarding the Friday clashes.

The Salah al-Din area, south of the capital, Tripoli, witnessed violent clashes between security and military formations that extended until the early hours of Friday morning.

Corroborative sources indicated that the fighting erupted between the Stabilisation Support Force and the 444 Brigade near the Takbali camp, HQ of the Tripoli Military District controlled by Brigade 444.
