The Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government has decided to form a committee headed by the Minister of Local Governing, Baddad Gansu, to be tasked to communicate with the conflicting parties in the Libyan southern region to reach an agreement by which the ceasefire can commence.

In an emergency statement issued on Sunday, the PC said this new decision aims to solidify the efforts of the PC in trying to strike a truce and avoid bloodshed in the south.

Clashes in southern Libya renewed Sunday afternoon after Dignity Operation had attacked Timnahent airbase using more than 20 howitzers.

The truce that was announced for three days between the pro-Dignity Operation forces led Mohammed Ben Nayel and the UN-proposed government's forces appointed by the defense minister-designate was broken.

The spokesman of the Brigade 201 in Timnahent airbase, Walid Salem, said their forces depicted movement for Haftar forces' vehicles, expecting new clashes to erupt as soon as the truce ends.

"The mediation of Nafousa Mountain elders to strike a truce between the fighting forces have been a failure as Dignity Operation forces had refused one of the truce's articles, which says they must hand over Barak Al-Shatea and Timnahent to a unbiased force.
