The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) has welcomed the inter-Libyan talks, which kicked off in the coastal town of Bouznika, south of Rabat on Sunday, at the initiative of the Moroccan government.

In a statement on Monday, the CEN-SAD emphasized it is following with "particular attention and great satisfaction" the talks between members of the High Council of State and the Tobruk-based parliament considering it a continuation of the Skhirat process, which yielded the Political Agreement back in December 2015.

The grouping praised the Moroccan administration efforts in this regard, saying it had created the conditions for the restoration and consolidation of peace and national harmony through fraternal dialogue.

"The ongoing dispute between the Libyan parties had adversely affected other CEN-SAD member States," the CEN-SAD noted, stressing the need for a negotiated solution to the Libyan crisis.

It also commended the Libyan parties engaged in this process for their "strong will and determination" to bring their country out of the crisis, calling on them to implement the Berlin Conference outcomes endorsed by the UN.

The CEN-SAD called the Libyan parties to make these talks a "historic event", and in this context, it urged the Libyan political and community leaders to show support for the Bouznika talks and to encourage the negotiators to "make patriotic compromises" in order to reach the required consensus that would end the division in the country and set the stage for free and inclusive elections.
