European officials say the Euroepan Commission finds it unnecessary to establish an additional humanitarian corridor between Libya and Europe as it has been working for years on evacuating vulnerable refugees and immigrants from Libya.

These remarks came as a response to Italian calls on the European Union to fund an additional humanitarian corridor to evacuate immigrants from Libya, Aki news agency reported.

Aki added that Rome's remarks come as it is working on amending the Memorandum of Understanding with Tripoli regarding illegal immigration issues, yet the EU said the MoU is Libyan-Italian bilateral issue that has nothing to do with the EU.

The EU warned earlier of unilateral initiatives by member states and foreign parties regarding immigration, calling for establishing more centers to accommodate immigrants before being resettled in third countries.
