The British Ambassador to Libya, Caroline Hurndall, has denied discussing the role of Libyan financial institutions regarding the latest Tripoli events in her phone call with the head of the parallel government, Fathi Bashagha.

“UK is unequivocal that the integrity and neutrality of Libya’s financial institutions must be maintained for the benefit of the Libyan people”, Hurndall tweeted,

During her phone call with Bashagha, Hurndall stressed the need for all sides to refrain from violence and provocation, saying “it’s critical that all parties engage constructively in dialogue towards a process that benefits all Libyans”.

In a tweet, Bashagha quoted Hurndall as saying that strict measures must be taken towards the role of financial institutions in supporting military operations in Tripoli, before he edited his tweet after the British ambassador's denial.
