The Algerian Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum said Tuesday that dispatching a Libyan-led ceasefire monitors' mission is highly pivotal for preserving the country’s sovereignty and unity, adding that this includes the implementation of 5+5 Joint Military Commission ceasefire agreement in full, especially the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries and ending arms embargo violations.

Boukadoum added, in his speech at the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, that all efforts should align with those of the UN to help the Libyan Government of National Unity achieve its roadmap targets, including discarding the political and military tensions that have been for years fueling the crisis in Libya.

Boukadoum also said on Twitter that the meeting reiterated the need to support the Libyan authorities, especially in unifying state institutions, achieving national reconciliation and preparing for December elections.

The Peace and Security Council meeting is the first since the new interim executive authority in Libya has taken office. It aims to discuss how the African Union can help in ceasefire monitoring and support Libya in removing foreign mercenaries, in addition to several important issues.
