The Libyan Red Crescent's rescue teams recovered Wednesday bodies of four children after a boat carrying 30 illegal immigrants capsized off the Libyan coast.
The Red Crescent said the children were Egyptian and their bodies washed up off Harsha and Matrad shores near Al-Zawiya city.
An official at the Red Crescent said, according to Libyan News Agency, that they were informed of a boat that was sinking on the high sea with 30 people on board, adding that rescue workers discovered three of the bodies near Al-Zawiya, around 45 kilometres (just under 30 miles) from Tripoli, and the fourth a few kilometres further west.
The Libyan Red Crescent official, Hassan Al-Bay, said the four children and their families (from Egypt) were headed to Italy on a boat, saying the families were living in Sabratha in western Libya.
He said they were notified that two Egyptian families living in Sabratha were missing, including a five-year-old girl and three boys between seven and ten.
