Ganfouda has been besieged for months amid calls by the international community and humanitarian agencies to allow the civilian families to have a safe corridor out of it.

Local media sources reported Saturday morning that the fighters of Benghazi Shura Council (BSC) have managed to break the siege of Dignity Operation on Ganfouda and 12 Buildings block in western Benghazi and got most of the stranded families outside of them.

The fighters of the BSC attempted to depart the besieged area at Saturday dawn and head to downtown Benghazi in armored vehicles to get the families out of the area in two directions.

One group headed toward Al-Sabri and succeeded in arriving there with the families.

The second group, however; was subject to heavy fire by Haftar's forces, leading to the killing of over 20 fighters, while other fighters were held captives, including several families who failed to make it out of the siege.

Pro-Haftar sources circulated on Saturday several photos and footage showing the arrest of a number of civilian families en route to leave Ganfouda and other photos showing the bodies of BSC's fighters.

Many families have been trapped in Ganfouda and Bu Nasib areas undergoing terrible humanitarian conditions with lack of water supplies, food, and healthcare amidst constant rejections by Dignity Operation to allow such basic needs to enter the besieged areas despite the appeals and calls of the local and international organizations.
