2 people were killed and 5 others wounded when a car exploded in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi on Saturday.

Sources said an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted under the car of Criminal Investigation Department officer Hamada Al-Ramli in Pepsi Street late at night in an attempt to assassinate him.

He was lucky to survive when his car exploded minutes before he got into it, the sources added.

Pepsi Street is located in Fawayahat district and it's under the control of Dignity Operation.

Last month, the chief of so-called “Special Tasks Force,” disclosed that a ring aligned with Khalifa Haftar's military command had been arrested in Benghazi for committing murder and assassinations.
